I first want to say how much I love Canada... I sometime really think it’s one of the best country on earth for the quality of air, water, social services, lack of violence...
Why then would I want separation from Canada?
I don’t want to separate from Canada...
Sovereignty talks more about the liberty of a land then how cut it is from it’s neighbours... This is an abuse of words done by those against sovereignty... Basically, they win by putting fear in people’s minds...
My desire to be sovereign has nothing to do with a hatred of some kind, I know people from other parts of Canada who would want there province to be sovereign... For example, the last time I read a survey about it, British Colombia had 15% of it’s people wanting sovereignty and the state of California (a state of the USA) also had a similar percentage...
Then again, why?
Let’s first look at ourselves as human beings... Let’s forget a moment the nationalistic aspect of our lives and let’s look at it from a more local and global point of views...
Why would Montreal need to be so linked to Vancouver while they are as far one another then Kingston (Jamaica) is to Montreal?
If we really want governments representing us, we need them closer to the people...
At the same time, if we want a united world, respecting the cultural differences, we need a system that considers the differences of population and so represents the people...
The whole island of Jamaica would have the same vote in a UN council as Canada while only Montreal’s population (my town, in Quebec, which is only one part of Canada), has the same amount of people then Jamaica... And let’s not start talking about China...
If one really believes in the saying that goes "think globally, act locally", ones sees easily why Quebec should become a country and why so many others places on earth should become sovereign...
Unity through diversity, union through the respect of differences...
These we’re my thoughts for today...
